Reinvigorating art: Bravo, Banksy!

Keith Dismaland

Amongst the surprising successes of our almost-over summer must be Banksy’s Dismaland bemusement park. It closed on Sunday having hosted some 200,000 people and brought something close to £20m to the ailing seaside town of Weston-super-Mare. Here I am on a bench between one of the Dismal (in name and manner) non-helpers and a Banksy sculpture of a woman being attacked by seagulls. As a demonstration of how art can make people think – and take them to places they would not ordinarily have gone to, it has been peerless.
